Hopefully this should already be obvious to you, but it really is important that you don’t go and get a tattoo if you are feeling in any way ill.
Tattoo artists will warn you of the dangers of getting tattoos when you are not feeling your best; even if you just feel a bit run down you should put off getting any body art until you feel better. The reason why it is not a good idea to get a tattoo while you are ill is that your immune system will not be able to cope with the extra stress cause by having to deal with your illness as well as the healing that will be needed at your tattoo site. If you wake up on the morning of your tattoo and you feel a bit under the weather then you should cancel.
It is a good idea to actually boost your immune system as much as possible before going for any tattoo. Make sure you get plenty of vitamin C in the day prior to your appointment. Preparing in this way will ensure that the healing process goes smoothly.
It is also worth noting that tattoo artists do not recommend that you take any type of pain medication before going for your tattoo. The reason for this is that most analgesia has the effect of thinning the blood, and this makes the tattoo artist job harder and the whole process more uncomfortable for you.
After the tattoo you will be able to take over the counter analgesia, but for the duration of the tattooing itself you just need to grit your teeth and bear it. It is also important that you don’t drink any alcohol before getting a tattoo because this will also cause you to bleed a lot more that usual.
