• Make sure to always keep your work are clean and tidy

The area around where you create your tattoo artistry must always be as sterile as you can possibly make it. This should only be an area where you work alone with your customer; it should not be the same place where your other customers are waiting. It is important that you don’t carpet this area or use wax because bacteria just love to live in that type of environment. The best color scheme to choose is white because this will allow you to see any blood, dirt, or other nasty mess that has accumulated; if you use white you will be able to see what needs to be cleaned more easily. Clear plastic coated with Scotchguard is what you should use to cover your table. This is a good type of cover because it will stop dirt and dust accumulating there.

When you are cleaning your work area make sure to wear rubber gloves and a plastic apron; never use a cloth apron because this tends to attract a lot of dirt and dust.  When you are cleaning your tables and chairs you will want to use a solution called Sodium Hypochlorite 5.25%; you can make this yourself by adding one quarter of a cup of bleach to a gallon of water. This solution can also be used on your floors as well.

If you have a beard or long hair then you will need to take precautions because this can really create opportunities for bacteria to spread; keep your hair cropped or kept in such a way that it won’t be touching things.  As we mentioned previously places like your hair and sebaceous glands are the place where bacteria most love to hang out.

Another important thing is that you always keep your nails short and clean. You should not be wearing any jewelry such as watches and rings while doing tattoos. Make sure that your clothing is clean and it is advisable that you wear a long shirt with trousers. This may all sound fairly obvious but it is important enough to mention again.
